Irc is a multi-user, multi-channel chatting network. It allows
people all over the internet to talk to one another in real-time.
Each irc user has a nickname they use. All communication with
another user is either by nickname or by the channel that they or
you are on. All IRCII commands begin with a / character.
Anything that does not begin with a / is assumed to be a message
that is sent to everyone on your channel.
Here's how to get started:
For those who have an IRC program installed already,
OTHERWISE: You must download and install the IRC progarm before you can use it. Similar to the way you downloaded and installed Netscape. You must set up the IRC program before you can use it. Use www.ondanet.com as your default IRC server. Now, connect to the www.ondanet.com server. Once connected to the server, join #laonda channel. Join the channel by typing:
/join #laonda
Notice all commands begin with "/"
Basically thats all there's to it. Just type in your messages and everyone on the channel should see it. I'll try to be logon as much as possible, but if I don't respond, just keep trying. Send me messages to get my attention.
For example:
/msg WebJefe Hello?
To leave a channel:
/part
To quit IRC:
/quit
For help on other commands, type in:
/help
Here is a list of basic commands to help you get started:
/LIST Lists all current irc channels, number of
users, and topic.
/NAMES Shows the nicknames of all users on each
channel
/JOIN (channel) Join the named channel. All non-commands
you type will now go to everyone on that
channel
/MSG (nick) (msg) Sends a private message to the specified
person. Only the specified nickname will
see this message.
/NICK Change your nickname
/QUIT Exits irc.
