SAN ANTONIO--Five days and twenty-seven of the best bands in Tejano and conjunto are on tap for the Tejano Conjunto Festival big 20th Anniversary celebration to be held May 9-13 at the Guadalupe Theater and Rosedale Park. Sponsored by the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center and Budweiser, the Tejano Conjunto Festival features up and coming musicians and Tejano/ conjunto giants such as Esteban Jordon, Michael Salgado, Mingo Saldivar, Los Dos Gilbertos, Ruben Vela, The Hometown Boys, Jay Perez, Grupo Vida, the Garcia Brothers and Flaco Jimenez, among many others. Festival highlights include an Opening Night Mixer on May 9 at the historic Guadalupe Theater, the “Tejano Conjunto Festival: 20 years of Music” video documentary release, a tribute to conjunto legend, the late Valerio Longoria, inductions into the Conjunto Music Hall of Fame; a national poster contest awards presentation, the long awaited release of the Tejano Conjunto Festival Tonantzin Anthology titled “Puro Conjunto: An Album in Words and Pictures”, A photo exhibit by photographer Al Rendon commemorating the Tejano Conjunto Festival, an accordion raffle and plenty of dancing and fun for the whole family. This year’s festival is expected to draw about 35,000 people from all over the world over the course of five days. Tickets for the Opening Night Mixer are $20 and include a complimentary copy of the “Tejano Conjunto Festival: 20 years of Music” video documentary and this years winning poster. As part of the big celebration, Thursday, May 10 will he free admission at Rosedale Park. Tickets to the festival for May 11 - 13 are $7 per person with a $1.00 discount for Guadalupe members.
